Job Title: Senior Compute Presales Engineer (4+ years)

Job Grade: VI

Role Summary :

Own the technical win for server, virtualization, and HCI opportunities. Run discovery, design architectures, build BOMs/pricing, deliver demos/POCs, contribute to RFx responses, and ensure clean handovers to delivery. Act as a trusted advisor with strong commercial awareness—and mentor 1–2 junior presales engineers through reviews, shadowing, and skills development.

Key Responsibilities:

Discovery & Design:

    • Lead technical discovery: workloads, performance/latency, capacity growth, availability/DR, security/compliance, operability, and budget.
    • Design solutions across:
      • Compute: rack/blade servers, GPU/accelerators, firmware/BIOS baselines, OOB management (iLO/iDRAC/UCSM).
      • Virtualization/HCI: VMware vSphere/vSAN, Microsoft HyperV/Azure Stack HCI, Nutanix AHV.
      • Storage & Data Protection: SAN/NAS/Object, snapshots/replication, backup (e.g., Veeam/Commvault), ransomware resilience.
      • Datacenter networking (essential only): VLANs, L2/L3, ToR basics for solution fit.
    • Produce HLD/LLD, diagrams, assumptions/risks, and BOM/BOQ with accurate sizing and licensing.

Sales Enablement:

    • Partner with Account Managers on qualification, competitive positioning, and value messaging.
    • Deliver presentations, demos, workshops and support TCO/ROI modeling.
    • Contribute to RFx technical sections, compliance matrices, and clarifications.

POC & Validation

    • Define POC success criteria and test plans; set up lab/onsite environments.
    • Execute performance/failover tests, document results, gaps, and remediation.
    • Drive technical acceptance with customer stakeholders.

Governance & Handover

    • Support deal reviews; validate effort estimates and identify delivery risks.
    • Provide handoff packages: designs, configs, runbooks, and acceptance criteria.
    • Support early project life to ensure design intent is realized.

Team Enablement & Mentoring (New)

    • Guide 1–2 junior presales engineers: set learning plans, assign shadowing on discovery/POCs, and copresent customer sessions.
    • Review and coach their HLD/LLD, diagrams, BOMs, and proposal narratives.
    • Run a biweekly design/code (automation) review and track progress toward certifications.

Vendor & Internal Enablement

    • Maintain relevant certifications to uphold partner status.
    • Track product advisories, EOL, and roadmap changes; update internal playbooks and demo kits.

Required Qualifications :

  • 4–6+ years in solutions/presales engineering focused on servers, virtualization, and/or HCI.
  • Proficiency with at least one major server vendor (HPE/Dell/Lenovo/Cisco UCS) and one virtualization/HCI stack (VMware/Microsoft/Nutanix).
  • Solid adjacent skills: storage & backup/DR, Windows Server & Linux basics (RHEL/Ubuntu), automation with PowerShell or Ansible.
  • Strong BOM creation, sizing tools, Visio/diagramming, RFx writing, and TCO/ROI support.
  • Excellent consultative selling, whiteboarding, and executive communication.

Education

  • Bachelor’s in computer science/engineering or equivalent experience.

Preferred Certifications

  • VMware: VCTA/VCPDCV (VCAP is a plus).

  • Clear deliverables; persuasive presentations for mixed audiences.
  • Crossfunctional collaboration with Sales, Delivery, and Vendors.
  • Mentoring & coaching with constructive feedback.

KPIs

  • Technical win rate, POC success, pipeline influenced.
